The lead agency, El Proyecto del Barrio (EPDB), provides a wide array of health and medical, employment and training, substance abuse and mental health and at-risk youth programs to the community for more than 30 years.
Founded in 1971 to provide services to the northeast San Fernando Valley, El Proyecto has expanded its services to the entire San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley and East Los Angeles, covering 400 square miles.

 

Since its inception in 1971, El Proyecto has earned a reputation for excellence and providing "Esperanza" (hope) to the community as proclaimed by the original EPDB logo.

Health and Medical Service

EPDB Health Care Clinics total more than 70,000 annual patient contacts. The clinics are located in the San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley, and East Los Angeles. Additional services are provided at three school-based clinics in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District and by a mobile medical services clinic that provides services throughout Los Angeles County.

HIV Services

The HIV Program provides services to HIV adult clients, the vast majority of these clients do not have other health care options; living 200% below poverty level. The program provides clients with medical outpatient services, HIV testing and counseling, health education, risk management, nutritional service and mental health.


Substance Abuse/Mental Health Services

The outpatient program provides counseling and referrals to clients with substance abuse, alcohol and mental health problems, in addition to services for women who are pregnant, or parenting. The Programs clients and families receive services from certified bilingual drug counselors, focusing on domestic violence/sexual abuse, self-esteem, peer support, life skills, health education, drug education, and parenting skills.

WorkSource

The WorkSource Center managed by El Proyecto del Barrio is a certified operator for both the City of Los Angeles and County of Los Angeles. Annually the center provides: job resource/referral assistance to over 5,000 customers, intensive job search, training and placement services for over 350 job seekers and business services to over 150 businesses.

The Center services youth ages 14 to 21 and provides them with opportunities to acquire educational, occupational and life skills that will transition them into employment in the career path of their choosing. The El Proyecto One Source is a Los Angeles City Four Star recognized program servicing the South and West San Fernando Valley.
